Not only was the 2024-25 school year memorable for what the Maumee athletic teams accomplished on the fields and courts, it was equally as excited in the Panthers student sections for the various games.

During the BCSN Honors Awards on Sunday, the Maumee student section was named the Student Section of the Year, beating St. Francis. The Panthers were previously named the best student section of the fall season.

Sydney Genot, Mia Mitchell, Lily Warns and Jackson Schneider were the Maumee seniors in attendance to accept the award.

According to Emily Ery, sports information director for Maumee, winning the award was a great honor.

“We have a great set of students who love to show up and support their peers,” Ery said. “None of this would be possible without the spirit of the students or support of our administration and staff. We have two great Panther Pack advisors who work hard with student leaders to create a theme schedule for football, volleyball and both boys and girls basketball games. Our student leaders work hard at getting as many students to games as possible, even making the long hauls to fill the stands at away games.

“The energy and pride of our leaders is contagious, and all students feel welcome to participate in the chants and actively cheer along with the game.”

Emily Baker, one of the Panther Pack advisors, said winning the award sets a high goal for next year’s student section leaders.

“I know our seniors who attended multiple sports games this year have really been training the juniors to uphold that expectation and tradition and show up for the games next year,” Baker said. “I once witnessed one of our senior students tell a junior student that he’d be missing out if he never went to a bowling game because they were so fun to watch. I loved to hear that.

“I have no doubt that next year will be even better than this year because that is the way of Maumee. We love the spirit and the growth of our school.”
