The Maumee volleyball team recently wrapped up its regular season and its first winning record since 2021. Now, the Panthers are looking for more as the postseason starts on Wednesday.
Maumee went 12-10 this season, including a 7-7 mark in the Northern Buckeye Conference. The Panthers had gone 31-41 over the last three seasons combined.
The Panthers were rewarded with the No. 3 seed in the Division III district tournament. They’ll open the postseason at home, hosting Bowling Green in a sectional final at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The winner advances to face either No. 2 Celina or No. 6 Wapakoneta in a district semifinal at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 20 at Liberty-Benton.
After a strong midseason stretch, Maumee hit a late bump, going 1-4 down the stretch with a win at Eastwood and losses to Lake, Oak Harbor and Otsego. That closed a run in which the Panthers went 7-2 over a key stretch in the middle of the season.
Senior Sydney Genot has led the way at the net, posting 176 kills along with 249 digs, 36 service aces and 21 blocks. Middles Bryanna Lankey (137 kills, 36 blocks) and Hayden Vascik (79 kills, 31 blocks), and Reign Hurt (111 kills) add plenty of offensive balance up front.
Junior setter Brooke Kwiatkowski put together another complete campaign, leading the team in assists (495), digs (305) and aces (46), while also contributing 92 kills and 22 blocks. She enters the postseason with career totals of 199 kills, 742 digs and 1,230 assists.
Defensively, junior libero Julia Coutcher provided consistency with 299 digs, second most on the team.
As they enter tournament play, the Panthers will look to build on their best season in four years and make some postseason noise in Division III.
